Chris Chase has been an exemplary Meathead Mover for over six years at our Camarillo location. His knack for problem solving, going the extra mile for clients, and giving back to the community has earned him all the prestige and adulation that comes with being our Meathead for the month of May.

Chris in a Nutshell

  • Reliable
  • Hard-working
  • Goal-oriented
  • Strong sense of community
  • The kind of guy who want by your side in a stressful situation

Chris’ Story

A Homegrown Helping Hand
Sometimes different career paths can compliment each other; a person can work one job to make ends meet while keeping his or herself in top mental and physical shape for the next path over the horizon. That’s the case with Chris Chase, who works as a professional mover during the week and puts out fires as a volunteer firefighter on weekends.

Born and raised in Camarillo, Chris, 27, is surrounded by a tight knit and ever-growing circle of family and friends. He says Ventura County has been good to him and he plans to give back. Chris graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fire technology from Oxnard College and later earned a second degree in emergency medical services from Ventura College.

Since then, he has given his weekends and certain weekday occasions to add to his experience with the goal of being hired on full-time to the City of Fillmore Fire Department. In his time volunteering with the department, he’s already gathered quite a bit of experience.

“It’s a fire department like any other fire department. I’ve been to fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies,” Chris said.

Though one might find little nexus between moving and fighting fires, but they have more in common than first comes to mind.

“There’s a lot of similarities between the two,” he said. “You’re going to a different house every day, assessing the situation, and like Meathead, every day, every job, is different. Physical fitness is huge, and of course teamwork is a huge part of Meathead and the fire service.”

Chris said that he’s ready to move on to the next stage of his life, in a new career, but acknowledges that competition is stiff with fewer departments hiring positions due to the slowly recovering economy. But in the meantime, he said, Meathead treats him right and keeps him on his toes.

Putting Out Fires of a Different Nature
When the day comes for him to move on to his long-sought career, Chris said he will always remember the skills he learned firsthand at Meathead. Namely, how to work, cooperate, and problem-solve as team. Those skills have come in handy for him many times over, when things don’t go as planned on a move, which happens. It’s trust in your coworker that pulls you through, he said.

“There are days you hate the job; where it feels like you run into problems everywhere you turn,” Chris said. “But in this job, you’re with your guys and you stick together to get the job done. I don’t think I could do the job without the great people I work with.”

And just as being a professional mover has complimented his volunteer work, the vice versa also rings true.

“The company does bend over backwards to make the customer happy,” he said. “In the fire service we’re told to adapt and overcome, and I kind of put that into Meathead because you never know what you’re getting into. When the unexpected comes up, you have to come up with a plan to overcome it.”

As we’ve heard from other Meathead employees, Chris said he finds satisfaction in putting a stressed-out client at ease—or as at ease as can be expected.

“The most rewarding part is just the friendships that come out of the job because moving can be very stressful to people. If you can make a difference in someone’s day, turn it around so they could have a good day, it makes all the difference to me,” Chris said.

He added that he knew he had signed up with the right company when he heard about Meathead Movers organizing a relief drive for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, soliciting donations of bottled water, food, clothing, and replacing supplies lost in the disaster.

“It’s a great company,” Chris said. “They do a lot of things for the community, especially women of domestic violence.”

“I’m glad to be part of it,” he added.

Other Great Details

Biggest Motivator
Two minutes speaking with Chris and you’ll realize he’s the kind of guy who likes to help out.

Chris’ Game
Despite the physically demanding and mentally exhausting regiment of work and volunteering that he puts himself through weekly, Chris, who played “pretty much everything” growing up, still finds time to indulge in one of his favorite pastimes—baseball. He plays in an adult softball league once a week as a way to calm the nerves after a tough day at the office.

Off the clock
When he’s not working, volunteering, or playing some good ol’ American softball, you can find Chris with his friends, girlfriend, and family at Nacimiento Lake.

Best of Luck, Chris!
On behalf of the company, we would like to thank Chris for all his hard work over the years and for being a shining example of the Meathead Mover Way both on and off the clock. We wish him the best of luck in pursuing his dream!
